Improving the Floor Shopping Experience With Certified Installation

Manchester, NH (July 19, 2007) - Installation continues to be one of the most challenging aspects of the flooring business today. Finding the best crews, ensuring top-notch work, and keeping customers happy from beginning to end are daily issues. That’s why Flooring America and Flooring Canada will introduce a new apprenticeship program to recruit, train, and certify installers.

“Developing great installation talent is a priority for our members,” said Flooring Canada President Jim Duff. “We want to ensure memorable shopping experiences for our customers, and that doesn’t end with the store experience; it ends with expert installation. This is a very important customer service area, and we intend to provide a service that is a healthy cut above what our competitors are offering.”

The apprenticeship program will be backed by the U.S. Department of Labor – a first in the flooring industry. Members will receive step-by-step instructions and help for recruiting and training new talent, then retaining those installers year after year.

“This program grew out of our five-year planning process,” said Duff. “It’s a priority for our members and we’re delighted to get it off the ground within a year of establishing the program as one of our goals. Installation is so important to customer satisfaction. It’s an experience, it’s a service - it’s not a commodity. Seeing a new carpet or floor should be a time of satisfaction and joy for a homeowner, and we look forward to launching this program in the fall to start solving this prickly sticking point in our industry.”
