Howard Brodsky and Alan Greenberg To Be Inducted Into The Cooperative Hall of Fame

Manchester, NH (January 6, 2009) – A lifetime of cooperative achievement that began in 1985 was recognized when the Cooperative Development Foundation announced that Howard Brodsky and the late Alan Greenberg will be inducted into the Cooperative Hall of Fame in a formal ceremony next May at Washington’s National Press Club in Washington D.C.

The two innovators and co-founders of CCA Global Partners shared a dream to empower and enrich the lives of entrepreneurs. The result of their dream is now one of the largest cooperatives in the United States, with 14 independent businesses in four countries and over 3,600 locations producing $10-billion in aggregate annual sales.

While developing and nurturing eight affiliate cooperatives in the flooring, mortgage banking, lighting and bicycling industries, Howard Brodsky’s and Alan Greenberg’s CCA Global Partners demonstrates the great potential for cooperative business. These efforts will be recognized with their induction into the Cooperative Hall of Fame.

Established by the National Cooperative Business Association, the Hall of Fame is a legacy of cooperation in America, honoring “genuinely heroic contributions to the cooperative idea, and the advancement of the principles of cooperation in the United States.” Its ranks include Benjamin Franklin for founding the Fireman Fund Insurance Cooperative, vice president Hubert H. Humphrey for his outspoken political support of cooperatives, as well as Lloyd and Mary Anderson, co-founders of REI cooperative.

Greenberg and Brodsky have made it their life’s work to create a cooperative environment where small business owners can achieve the same market advantages as the national chains with which they compete.

Building on the success of Carpet One, they continued to evolve a business model that has since been adapted to many industries, markets and countries. Today CCA Global Partners’ tools, systems and support structures give members the means to sustainability, effective competition, and growth in a competitive marketplace. Ethical and environmental responsibility is an integral part of this business approach, as is a history of service to local communities and charitable support.

In announcing the award, the Cooperative Development Foundation called co-founders Howard Brodsky and the late Alan Greenberg “visionaries, leaders and teachers”—characterizations with which their co-op members would readily agree. Both men have devoted their careers to enriching the lives of entrepreneurs and making cooperative membership a prosperous venture for small business owners.

“This is a tremendous honor for us, to be recognized in this way,” said Brodsky. “I know Alan would agree that this award is a reflection of our outstanding team at CCA Global Partners who helped build our organization, and who keep us running day in, day out.”

The awards ceremony will take place at the National Press Club in Washington D.C., on May 6, 2009.
